Sweet. Exotic. Ethereal.
Rose Water is a three-piece world music ensemble putting a heavenly spin on folk music from the Balkans, the Mediterranean, the Middle East and Latin America.

Featuring Katina Heard (voice, piano accordian), Wendy Lang (voice, clarinet) and Brody Willys (acoustic guitar), the ensemble creates a hauntingly beautiful sound - made distinctive by the perfectly-matched, pure-toned voices of Katina and Wendy and the divine guitar-pickings of Brody. They perform songs of laments, hopes and dreams which transcend language and culture, singing in Greek, Spanish, Bulgarian, Ladino, Brazilian Portugese, Turkish, Roma Gypsy and Mexican Zapotec.

Based in Brisbane, Australia, Rose Water formed in 2010 after Katina, Brody and Wendy met in the Brisbane Balkan and Middle Eastern folk music scene.

The Members

Katina Heard has come to singing through several years in the Brisbane Canto Coro Community Choir, which is not afraid to tackle gritty pieces in Greek and Spanish.  An amazing Balkan/Middle Eastern folk scene in Brisbane inspired her to take up piano accordion (after playing with piano and guitar growing up). Inspired by her collection of sweet and exotic music, Katina initiated the Rose Water group to share this musical experience with audiences in Brisbane.

Wendy
Lang began playing classical clarinet at the age of 10, but was lured into Brisbane's Balkan/Middle Eastern folk music scene more than a decade later, after hearing a Bohemian-looking gentleman unexpectedly play a Macedonian tune at an Irish music session. As a singer, she first gained experience in school choirs, but focussed on solo singing in recent years, experimenting with pop, jazz and various world music styles.

Brody
Willys started learning the classical guitar at young age in Germany. On his return to Australia, Brody stayed true to the classical guitar repertoire but was intrigued by the folk music of other cultures including those of South America, Africa and the Middle East. Brody stumbled into the Brisbane Balkan and Middle Eastern folk scene after purchasing a second hand Oud, a middle eastern lute.
